Even though the premise of UNO on crack is good, controlling your deck with the D-pad or thumbstick is an exercise in frustration. The game not only requires quick thinking it also requires lightning-fast hand dexterity and once your deck gets up in numbers you simply don’t have enough time to move your cards around. A mouse would have been the perfect controller for this type of game with the ability to drag and select a few cards at a time. Control issues aside, the presentation is at a high quality with vivid graphics and suitably frenetic audio. Avatars and Xbox Live Vision camera are supported along with a bunch of multiplayer modes including local and online ranked games. You can also tailor the game with your own house rules with different penalties, Command cards, speed, etc.

I like UNO but I don’t know if I like what the developers have done here with UNO Rush. UNO fans of quick mind and hand will probably love this iteration however controlling your cards with the Xbox controller is simply too difficult given the speed at which you need to pull off your decisions coupled with the information you need to digest and analyse within seconds which might be irrelevant by that time because someone threw in a different card to what you foresaw just 3 seconds ago. The first few times I played I felt like my head was going to explode much like reading that last sentence. Then as I got used to the game’s new mechanics my left thumb suffered a seizure. I persevered and I finally won a game but my blood pressure was off the chart and in all likelihood I probably shortened my life expectancy by about 2 years. I don’t know about you but I prefer my UNO at a more relaxed pace as opposed to DEFCON 1.
