If you happen to get shot and it will happen a lot you will notice there is no health bar, any health packs nor do you have a shield in anyway besides that of a brick wall or vehicle. By eliminating the health bar Infinity Ward forces you to take cover, not to run out in the open, to strategise your advances and to make use of smoke grenades (your best friend in intense battles). When you do get shot parts of the screen go red (the direction of where the shot came from) and you start to breath heavily you will usually hear fellow soldiers telling you to take cover, so you take cover, recover then continue your battle. There will be times where you just narrowly missed the explosion of a grenade or missed getting bombed by war planes and you will fall to the ground, everything will go slow while your trying to crawl your way to safety. This can happen any time and usually means you’re pretty much in great danger so get the hell out of there!
As you go through all 27 missions you feel a sense of achievement at the end of each mission especially with the victorious music which plays after you complete the mission. You feel like you actually worked hard to complete the missions and that’s what you should expect. The downside though is the Xbox live side of the game. For starters you cannot create your own room, where you are able to customise weapons, maps or game modes; instead you have to do a quick match search or a custom match search (where you search for a specific game mode) as well as experience extreme lag issues in some areas.
Though all is not lost these issues are being looked at as we speak and Infinity Ward has promised a patch to be realised in the near future to solve all these issues aswell as increase the player limit to 16 (as opposed to 8 players), so we can continue the high quality intensity we experienced through the campaign, online. When the patch is released you will be able to choose from 16 highly detailed multiplayer levels based on the campaign locations as well as fight in 5 different multiplayer modes such as the usual deathmatch and capture the flag modes as well as the intense headquarters mode (your team must rush to certain locations and hold the location to gain points) and search and destroy mode (your team must plant bombs or defend objectives from getting blown up).
Overall Call of Duty 2 is by far the best Xbox 360 title, if not the best depiction of World War II to date and is definitely a must for fans of first person shooters who enjoy high quality action in all its realism. Call of duty 2 provides you with action packed, intense warfare as you clear out buildings, disarm tanks, clear out flak crew, secure significant towns, participate in tank battles as well as reconnaissance missions all done along side your fellow soldiers. Call of Duty 2 really puts you in the shoes of the soldiers feeling every bit of struggle and intensity. If you manage to finish the game on the hardest level (veteran) which takes approximately 10 – 15 hours depending on your style of play you would have earned each and every achievement and is definitely a gaming experience you wont forget.
