Once you have joined or created a game you must pick your race. Here you have a choice of 4 different and unique races; Human, Elf, Troll or Dwarf. This is an important decision as you have to play as the race of your choice for the whole game which could be six to eleven rounds. All of the races have their own unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses. For example the Human starts off with the most money in the game; $500 more than any of the other races, is a fairly well rounded race in terms of health and weapon ability and is able to use technology with out it affecting his essence. Though compare the human to the elf who is the fastest race in the game, has the second highest amount of essence and regenerates health when not taking damage though is particularly weak and requires sacrificing essence to use technology. Essence is allows you to perform magic and or use technology which takes up essence though slowly regenerates over time. Choosing your race usually comes down to your style of play, if you consider your self as a stealthy ninja or handy medic you would go the fast paced elf or if you consider yourself the spray and pray brute you would select the Troll along with the mini gun and smart-link.

Upon entering a game, each round there is a brief few seconds to purchase weapons, magic and or technology. In total there are seven different types of weapons, seven different types of magical powers and five different technology abilities to choose from. You start off with $2500 if you are a human and every other race starts off with $2000. The first round is crucial as your cash is limited for this round and you must decide whether to purchase a weapon to get a few easy kills, though your weapon is lost if you die. The other option is to purchase a form of magic or technology which sticks with you for the whole game. Purchasing magic or technology in the first round will leave you with only a pistol and a couple of grenades for the first round. As you go through the rounds you are awarded money for your performance, kill an enemy, resurrect a team mate or win the round you will earn cash though kill or injure a team mate you lose cash.
Luckily for those of you with itchy trigger fingers you can purchase the technology smart-link which will prevent you from shooting at a team-mate ever again as well as improving your accuracy and adding an additional zoom to each weapon. You must make sure that you have the technology/magic you want to use at the time binded to either the left/right bumper or the left trigger. You can only bind up to 3 of these for quick usage at one time forcing the player to use a bit of strategy, working out the best combinations is crucial for the success of your team.
