Xbox 360 fans of the Adventure RPG must be feeling a tad neglected of late. There are shooters galore, more racers than you can shake a chain mailed fist at, but the Adventure RPG genre has had a bit of a drought. Well the drought is broken with the release of Overlord, Triumph Studios debut release in the console market with a unique approach to the RPG.
Overlord starts by the main protagonist having been resurrected from the dead into his dilapidated dark tower, a shadow of his former self. Your character has the look of Sauron from Lord of the Rings in full armour with menacing blue eyes glowing from beneath his helm. As you return to the mortal world, you meet your aide who provides you some basic training and instruction so that you get familiar with the controls. This helpful individual is based in the dark tower and provides the background and information about your kingdom, and he also assigns you your first task which is to retrieve a critical part of your tower that allows you to travel instantly between your tower and transport points within your kingdom.

As you progress through the various levels you receive quests that must be completed, and a large part of this involves retrieving the items that have been pilfered from your tower in your absence. Your overall goal is to reclaim your throne as the evil ruler of your kingdom, but this is not something that you can do alone and luckily you have help. Lots of short, bad tempered, destructive help, which comes in the form of minions. These are demonic, Gollum like creatures whose sole function is to please their master and they are the core of the entire game.
