There are 4 different types of minion available (though not initially), each with their own unique abilities and weaknesses. You start of with brown minions, specialists at hand to hand combat. You later acquire red minions that resist fire and can launch fireballs at enemies, but are very fragile at hand to hand combat. Then there are green minions, which are resistant to poison and have a powerful attack that can bring down ogres. Finally there are blue minions which can travel through water and revive other fallen minions. Once you collect a minion hive, you can add those minions to your evil army. But there is a limit to the amount of minions that you can use at any one time. You start off being able to summon 5, but this number increases as you gain power. You will need to increase the number of minions that you take with you as many items you need to return to your dark tower require a certain number of minions to carry it.

Minions enjoy wreaking havoc and you can send them off as small group or as an entire pack to do thy bidding! They destroy and annihilate a variety of items and scavenge goodies for their master or weapons and armour for themselves. It’s hugely entertaining seeing a mob of minion’s dash about leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Send your minions over a table of food and drink and you will see them down the frothy brew in one, hiccup and stagger around for a few seconds as they feel the effect of the booze, and then relieve themselves with great pleasure. They will also dismantle crops and vegatable patches, even going so far as wearing smashed pumpkins as helmets. You hear your minions squeal and cackle as they wreck and pillage and cheerfully offer their bounty to their master. The visual carnage is all the more satisfying hearing the enthusiasm exuded by your minions. Controlling your minions seems rudimentary at first, and as the game progresses and the finer points of minion control become apparent. Move the group into an object or enemy and they instinctively know what to do. You find yourself assessing an objective that you must overcome and assigning different minions to different tasks in order to solve it. For example, you can send your ranged fire minions to high ground to cover the tougher combat minions as they take on the enemy. This adds a nice tactical layer to the game that unfortunately doesn’t get exercised anywhere near as often as it should.
