So let’s get one thing straight right away, Valve truly loves you. At a time when the gaming industry seems to be mimicking the film industry with regards to releasing collector’s editions at retail, with extra content that is generally resigned to “making of” documentaries, Valve has remembered that gamers love content with substance specifically more actual game and not just some added on frills. Because of this The Orange Box is hands down the best value for money title released on a console to date. For the price on one game this compendium offers no less than five games on one disc and each is a classic in its own right.
Out of the box you’ll receive: Half-Life 2, its two episodic content packs (HL2: Episode One & Two), Portal and Team Fortress 2. Of course if you wish to nit-pick here you could argue that the episodic content is an actual add-on to the main Half-Life 2 story and therefore you really only have three main games on show here but hey, when you’re paying for one game and you get more for your money who can be bothered arguing? Also while the episodes are short compared to the main game they both offer some substantially different game elements that show that Valve have clearly evolved over the past few years since Half-Life 2 first released on PC.
