After the release of the last Kingdom Under Fire game the guys over at Blueside have been hard at work bringing the once birds eye strategy game down to a ground level RPG. Following the original goals of the past Kingdom Under Fire games with a very focused story line and restricted free roaming left Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom with a tough challenge ahead.
The game kicks starts as most RPG games would by allowing you with the choice of a few characters each with there own abilities and disabilities. Setting KUF in the times before guns and rifles the most painful part of the game is building your level up to an acceptable level. The entire first mission key goal is to allow the player to reach a level of around 8-10. Once you have reached an acceptable level the game begins to really pick up and fun parts of KUF begin to stand out. The main negative part about KUF is the constant lacking of the story line with just a constant wave of enemies as you progress through the levels. With no real goals being achieved apart from the new items and raised level.
The storyline in KUF is very poorly thrown together with everything coming together at the last minute. For the true storyline fans there is a Prologue which will sum up the past KUF games to help greater understand the light and the dark side in the game. The best part of the storylines structure is there is very little dialogue throughout the game and constantly focuses on getting to the end of the level. The story line is brought up using the Idols in the game. Sleeping near the idols will allow you to be taken into almost a completely different dimension where another character will discuss the storyline and any quests that appear. Although the idols do keep the storyline active it is not a requirement of the game. The ability to bypass the idols and keep going on in the game allows for levels to be quickly and swiftly accomplished. These idols are also used to sell and store items and also synthesise items.
