Ever wondered what would happen if the Nazis had invaded and taken over America, the UK and all of Europe? What would happen if Winston Churchill did not survive to lead the country to war? Turning Point: Fall of Liberty attempts to venture into this scenario depicting a realistically crafted alternate time in history but how does it fair on the game side of things?
On paper Turning Point: Fall of Liberty’s story itself is intriguing; presenting what may have happened if Winston Churchill had been killed when he was hit by a taxi in 1931. Though the plot is rather thin and fails to expand on the idea of how life would have been if the Nazis had invaded. Turning Point gives you control of a random civilian by the name of Carson who is working on an unfinished sky scrapper in New York City where you notice the German airships approaching rapidly. Fearing for your life you try to make your way down the sky scrapper though every which way you turn the structure starts falling apart due to the intense gun fire. In this scene I found that I was quickly engaged in to the gameplay, as I was trying to save my unlikely hero but this is where the intense and engaging moments end. Throughout the rest of the game you basically travel through random buildings and underground corridors which become very lack luster due to the linear nature not to mention the very buggy combat system causing the interest in the game to drop significantly.
The weapons in the game look visually stunning, depicting guns based on the Nazi weaponry of WWII though when in the heat of the battle do not seem to perform very well. Firstly you are able to carry two weapons (you can pick up weapons on the run) and two grenades. The buttons are similar to the call of duty series where the left trigger is to aim and the right trigger is to shoot with the bumpers to throw grenades. The aiming in the game is rather difficult due to the iron sights taking up most of the screen when zoomed in and you are very lucky if you can pull off a head shot if you somehow get through the very poor hit detection which can be very inconsistent.
