It is entertaining when you first try a new character, trying to master their individual weapons and various hack n’ slash fighting styles. As Jarred, you use a baseball bat to slay your foes and as his brother Simon you utilize his cleverly created splatter gun and as Malorey, a single-handed sword. It’s fun to find upgrades for each weapon and unlock new combat moves as you continue to fight through the waves of re-spawning goblins.
The inclusion of sprite catching to liven up the game play is a nice addition to the game. Basically, you catch sprites with your net and then proceed to a mini-game where you have to paint your sprite in order to use its ability. This can give you such bonuses as a health boost or damage boost and if you fail to paint the sprite in time you have to do it all again. Like most elements in this game, you quickly get frustrated at having to repaint the same sprite every time you want to access that ability.
