Civilization is the brain child of Sid Meier and has been with us since the original back in 1991 which launched on the PC (good ol DOS days) and has attracted a legion of fans since. With over 5 million copies of the original game being sold one can’t often think do all good things come to an end? Well after the very unsuccessful port of Civilization 2 back on the Playstation which nearly ended the Civilization dream on a console forever, game developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games have designed a strategy game purely designed for a console. By not trying to cram complicated strategy keyboard strokes onto a controller and developing a new set of commands dedicated to a controller has made leaps and bounds into truly making an innovative Strategy game for the next gen consoles. So does this game live up to the hype or will it sink faster than the titanic. Please read on to find out.
The first thing you will notice after starting the game is the menu system is very simple, yet effective. With an easy to use menu it will make it helpful to the not so savvy CIVREV player. From the outset of gameplay you will notice that there are an abundance of characters awaiting to help you with your new Civilization or threatening to annihilate you at first glance. As with all CIV games it is a veritable juggling act trying to keep both your citizens happy, as well as advancing both the military and technological aspects of your empire. The citizens need for wealth, health and culture will keep you on your toes.
As you start a new game you first have to pick the Civilization you wish to play as. It ranges from Britain to America, from the Mongols to the Greeks, From the Japanese to the Aztecs. There are 16 different Civilizations all with the historically correct leaders to pick from. Each Civilization has its own special abilities, strengths and weaknesses. All these details are showed on screen during the Civ selection screen. For further info there is a Civilopedia which can be accessed in game by pressing the Y button.
